New Mexico Landscape fascinates me. In Albuquerque there are wonderful places where our environment seems to contain a secret memory and consciousness that has a way of expanding and moving forward.

Right now I have a sense of urgency to pay close attention to place, to nature and to the present moment. As a society we spend so much time looking at screens and anticipating the next thing. Painting landscape helps me to be grounded to the earth and be present to its rhythms, beauty and wisdom.

New Mexico’s deserts, rivers, cottonwood groves and mountain forests feel like they contain a gateway to the mystery of our existence. When I look out upon the Rio Grand River it seems to hold secrets and histories silently, it’s memories flowing away in the currents, buried under new growth or dispersed with the wind and rain.

My principle medium is oil paint and my process is very simple, no medium or solvent, just direct oil paint on canvas and then a varnish at the end. I often work from photographic sources, photos that I take my self and then manipulate with photoshop and then again with paint.
